Xodo Actions
Mobile / Product Design / Monetization
Overview
Xodo is one of the top-rated PDF apps in the Google Play Store, with over 20M+ installs and 5M+ MAU. The Xodo Actions is a set of powerful document processing tools. It’s a central place to access relevant tools and processed files. It helps users get the work done fast through a simple and unified experience, whether it’s the tool-first or file-first approach.

What I did
I led the design of this project - from the overall experience to individual workflow of each action, worked with another designer and Android development team to bring our powerful SDK features into the mobile experience.
I conducted competitive research, and I validated the designs with stakeholders and internal teams throughout the process. We delivered the first version in Q1 of 2022, and it’s being tested by our Beta users.
Guiding principles
To align with the Xodo product objectives and the Actions strategy, I set the following guidelines to measure the success of the Actions design, for higher-value delivery and future scalability for upcoming document-processing actions such as encrypt/decrypt, OCR, and more Office conversions.
• Enhance productivity
• Ensure scalability
• Provide flexibility
One destination for all tools and processed documents
With Xodo Actions, users can discover and access both content-level and document-level processing tools in one place, organized by categories of various functionalities. Users can also access all processed documents rather than needing to search through the mixed list of viewed or irrelevant documents in different locations. Actions is the center of productivity for users.

Simple and unified workflow helps users get the work done fast
For most actions, users go through file selection, staging or modify content (if applicable), then complete. File type filtering and status indications help reduce any overhead, guide users to get the work done fast. The workflow is universal and scalable for more upcoming tools.
Provide flexibility for tool-first and file-first approaches
Every user varies in their ways of working with documents. Their Actions experience may begin with finding tools needed for their tasks, or the files they want to work on (also when viewing the content). In addition to the Actions tab, allowing access to relevant actions in File Info and the Viewer can accommodate the diverse needs of users.
Monetize with caution
As we’re transitioning Xodo from a free to a freemium app, rather than paywall all tools, we kept those existing tools free for all users with enhanced workflow and capabilities. It’s a major opportunity to build trust and loyalty.
I also redesigned the subscription page to reduce bounce rate and crated multiple touchpoints to inspire conversions.
